Wagamama kids’ cooking class is a hit

If you’re on the hunt for fun, socially distant activities for your kids this summer, check out what – or shall I say, who’s – cooking over at Wagamama.

I signed my boys, ages 5 and 8, up for the 90-minute course and they thoroughly enjoyed creating and then devouring lunch inside a real restaurant!

We were greeted upon arrival and shown to a table where two other children were already seated. The tables, which accommodated four children each were spread 2 meters apart. Each table was already prepped with ingredients, a scale and place settings.

There were two staff members assigned to each table and one of them squirted hand sanitizer on my boys’ hands while they other helped them into their chef’s hats and aprons. One-by-one each kid was guided through the process of measuring fresh ingredients to whip up their very own serving of mini yaki soba.

Throughout the process, kids learned about healthy and nutritious ingredients, food prep and cooking techniques. I appreciated that the tasks were challenging enough to keep them engaged but simple enough that my youngest boy was able to keep up.

Finally, the compiled dishes were cooked by the house chef and served with fresh fruit juice and a pair of chopsticks. Perhaps the biggest lesson in all of this for my kids was learning to use the kid-friendly chopsticks provided by Wagamama.

This turned out to be a very good experience and I’m certain that my picky eaters actually tried something new and ate the food because they made it. Just before leaving my mini chefs were presented with a signed certificate to commemorate the day. The Wagamama Kids’ Cooking Class was a unique and affordable way to spend the afternoon and I highly recommend giving it a try.
