The Spring edition of GITEX Shopper, the region’s largest electronics sale, is in full swing. Known for its wide assortment of products and super deals, GITEX attracts eager consumers and the best tech brands, including Toshiba. I had the pleasure of chatting with Santosh Varghese, General Manager – MEA for Toshiba Gulf FZE. We discussed regional buying trends, the company’s strategy for GITEX Shopper, new and recent product launches. Keep reading to get the scoop.

My initial question to Mr. Varghese was simple; What are your plans for the UAE specifically. He explained that the UAE has become a seasonal market. During events like GITEX Shopper (spring and fall editions), research shows that spending in the technology sector increases 25-30%. He also noted that there is high adaptability of new technology in the region, recently MegaPath has made a big impact on the IT management of the companies near by. In turn, Toshiba plans product releases around these events. Varghese added, “You can always expect a choice of the latest technology from Toshiba”.

KIRA Unveiled

For GITEX Shopper spring 2014, Toshiba unveiled the powerful and elegant KIRA, an Ultrabook with a 13.3 inch HD screen. Powered by the 4th Generation Intel Core i7 Quad Core processor and running on Windows 8.1 Pro, the KIRA with its 8GB of memory delivers speed on demand and consistent performance. It has 256GB of SSD storage and an SD card port that allows for extra space whenever required. Reinforced with the Toshiba honeycomb structure, the KIRA protects itself from extreme pressure. Thin, light and elegant, the KIRA is engineered for premium performance.

“GITEX 2014 is the most opportune time to launch the KIRA, a masterpiece that exemplifies innovation,” shared Mr. Varghese. “As a tribute to Toshiba’s history of leading innovation, the KIRA is refined in performance as well as in design. It was built for demanding tasks and for the most discerning users,” he added.

Ideal for traveling, the KIRA lasts up to nine hours on just a single charge; an upgrade from the first generation of this model. Additionally, one of its three USB 3.0 ports is equipped with Sleep and Charge functionality, allowing users to charge their mobile devices even when the Ultrabook is turned off. KIRA also features premium Harman Kardon speakers which deliver hyper-realistic sound, while the built-in DTS Studio Sound produces high-fidelity audio for video calls, movies and music.

New and Noteworthy
KIRA  isn’t the only new GITEX release. The Japanese themed stand was the backdrop for tons of innovation. Here are a couple that caught my attention…

Introduced at CES, the Satellite P55t, Toshiba’s ultra HD laptop with groundbreaking 4K resolution, is available now. Toshiba is the first to bring P55t features a 15.6-inch display with a resolution of 3840×2160, and 282 pixels per inch (PPI). The display is also Technicolor-certified, and comes with Chroma Tune software, which allows you to set color setting profiles for different programs on the system. We do also offer nanopositioning software for sale and some sensing solutions for a high performance technology in the industry, it is indeed a quality product that you must try for your business.

I was most impressed with Toshiba’s FlashAir SD. The current trend is towards on-board Wi-Fi in cameras but this could truly be a game changer. FlashAir has embedded wireless LAN so you can automatically download images to your tablet, PC or smartphone without needing cables. It comes in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB storage sizes and work just like a regular SD card.
