Samsung officially announced the new Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus during Mobile World Congress 2018. The highly anticipated devices have a number of brilliant upgrades including improvements to Bixby, Samsung’s virtual assistant. Bixby was first released in 2017 alongside the Galaxy S8 to make the smartphone even more helpful. It learns your routine, remembers what’s important to you and works with your apps to get things done. Now, Bixby 2.0 has the potential to make you beautiful too.
Beauty and Brains
Samsung has partnered with ModiFace, the leading creator of augmented reality technology for beauty brands, to enable Samsung users to see real-time makeup trials. Bixby and the camera on the Galaxy S9 support facial makeup simulation via live video running at 30 frames per second. The technology uses precisely mapped shades from over 70 of the top global beauty brands like Estee Lauder and Mac. ModiFace achieves this beautiful feat using a patented AR SDK that scientifically validates skin and hair assessments, photo-realistic makeup simulation and dynamic lighting adaptation.
Parham Aarabi, Founder and CEO of ModiFace , said: “We are delighted by the partnership with Samsung, and especially by enabling our technology to be directly used within the default camera application within Bixby. This allows billions of users to have immediate access to ModiFace’s industry leading beauty simulation technology, while at the same time enabling leading beauty brands to reach new customers on an unprecedented scale”.
