Sony BRAVIA Meets Android TV

Sony BRAVIA Meets Android TV

Sony announced a new range of TVs, which deliver 4K picture quality and for the first time, these televisions will support Google’s latest Android TV operating system. The addition of Android TV makes it easy for the television to stream video, function as a gaming controller and provide enhanced features like Google Cast and Voice Search. BRAVIA meets Android to deliver an impeccable user experience on a large screen.

Satoru Arai, Head, Sony Middle East Marketing Company commented: “As the industry leader in 4K picture quality, Sony’s commitment to developing technologies that enhance the viewing experience is showcased with this line-up. Adoption of the Android operating system from Google provides customers with a seamless integrated experience with their mobile devices ensuring that consumers can now enjoy everything they are used to on their smartphones or tablets, from their television for a smarter viewing experience. This is the future of television.”

Technically, a “Smart TV” is any TV that can be connected to the internet. However, Sony stepped their game up to make a truly intelligent TV and they started with how you interact with it. There are no motion sensors or silly gestures required. Android TV comes with 2 remote controls; one standard and the other equipped with a touch pad and input for voice commands. I test drove this feature by simply holding down the microphone button which prompted a search screen to appear on the TV. Then, I spoke these magical words into the remote, “Launch YouTube” (‘Launch’ is the keyword for a command), and viola! the YouTube app opened. Voice commands doesn’t stop there. You can also search within apps, by saying things like “Disney movies”. Other notable features include the ability to play PlayStation games directly from an app on Android TV and its ability to support many different languages, including various dialects of Arabic – a function that’s sure to be a fan favorite in this region.
