As a new year approaches, I am setting goals and making moves to improve. On the road to becoming my best, I must also look my best. That starts, with my face. I would not describe my skin as terrible, but surely it could be better. The first step I took to having clean, clear and healthy skin was to go and get a skin cancer screening at a local clinic. Since I rarely pay attention to my skin and don’t really use anything to protect it from the sun, I wanted to make sure I get a test done on my skin, as skin cancer is the most common cancer. I then decided to buy some Neutrogena products.I am prone to the occasional break out which almost always leaves behind a blackhead. By the time I finish the process of lightening the hyper pigmented area back to it’s natural tone, I get another breakout. It’s a vicious cycle so I was excited to see the subject line, “Banish Blackheads Forever with Visibly Clear 2 in 1 Wash and Mask From Neutrogena ” in my inbox.
The secret to solving any persistent skin problem is to use the right products and use them consistently. Keeping your skin free of blackheads and the visible pores they leave behind is too important to leave to chance! That’s why I’m going to try the Blackhead Eliminating range from NEUTROGENA VISIBLY CLEAR®.
The Neutrogena® Visibly Clear 2 in 1 Wash and Mask is a multitasking cleanser which can be used as a daily face wash to cleanse away make-up, dirt and excess oil and help prevent blemishes. It can also be applied as a weekly face mask to cleanse deep down into pores and condition skin, leaving it soft, smooth and healthy-looking.Neutrogena® Visibly Clear 2 in 1 Wash and Mask contains salicylic acid, a specific blackhead-fighting ingredient.
The product claims to eliminate and prevent blackheads for up to three weeks. So, that’s the test. As you can see in my “before” photos below, I have some existing blackheads. I am going to wash my face with the product once daily, as prescribed by the directions on the back, and report on its effectiveness. I will update this post after week 1, week 2 and week 3. The final update will include “after” photos and hopefully, they will be blackhead free.

The first week of my challenge ended December 17th. My initial observations are that the product is performing as expected. The face wash is white and has a creamy consistency. I followed the directions closely and wet my face prior to washing. I squeezed about a dirham (quarter) sized amount of the face cream into my hand. As I massaged the cream into my face, I could feel on both my hands and face, that it was extremely gritty. The grit is actually the exfoliating beads that sweep away dead skin cells. Although the product is gritty, it is still gentle provided you don’t apply too much pressure to your face while washing. I enjoyed the feeling and was confident that I was removing dead skin cells. I’m using the product as a daily facial cleanser but it is a 2 in 1; due to it’s exfoliating properties it can be used intermittently as a facial scrub.
When I was done, my face felt and looked clean. My skin retained it’s elasticity. I didn’t have that tight, dry feeling that can sometimes follow using a face wash. Nor did I experience any adverse affects. I didn’t have any allergic reactions, tenderness or redness after using the product. Everything was normal. It does smell aromatic so there is likely some fragrance among the ingredients. That’s something to further investigate if you’re typically sensitive to fragrance.
I haven’t seen much change in existing blackheads but eradicating hyperpigmentation is a process. This week I only washed my face with the Neutrogena 2 in 1 Visibly Clear face wash once daily. Since I’ve adjusted well to the change, I am going to increase the frequency to twice daily for weeks 2 and 3. Stay tuned…
[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab title=”Week 2 Results” tab_id=”1386666605-2-69″][vc_column_text]During week 2 I increased my usage to twice a day. I washed with the Neutrogena Visibly Clear 2 in 1 Wash once in the morning and at night before going to bed. I also added Neutrogena Deep Clean makeup remover wipes. I don’t wear makeup daily but when I do, removing it all can be a challenge; Especially, products like long wear mascara. Both products worked effectively and left my skin feeling clean and refreshed. So far, I still haven’t had any new breakouts. That’s great news. Onward, to week 3…[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab title=”Week 3 Results” tab_id=”1386666716794-2-3″][vc_column_text]…Continued Success! I completed week 3 with no new blemishes. I did not get a single new pimple during this experiment. I started the challenge with blackheads from previous breakouts on both cheeks. While the Neutrogena Visibly Clean 2 in 1 Wash and Mask didn’t completely eliminate the hyper pigmentation, it did make it better. My left cheek has had remarkable improvement as I can barely see the the dark marks when I look at recent photographs of myself. The scars on my right cheek are more visible but lighter than they were when I started the challenge. If you’re thinking of trying this product, here are my tips for best results:
- Start by using it once daily and increase to twice daily if your skin can tolerate it.
- The product is extremely gritty to encourage exfoliation. Rub it onto your face gently!
- For optimal results, use with other products from the Neutrogena Visibly Clear line. (The makeup removing wipes were a great addition.)
