With schools closed to help stop the spread of covid-19, kids are missing out on more than just classroom instruction. Sports training and competitions have also been cancelled but there are ways to keep them active while building skills at home. HomeCourt is an app that uses artificial intelligence to help players constantly improve their skills over time. So, how does it work? The app is simple to setup and has an extensive library of drills and activities. You pick the drill and the camera on your device records the player doing it. The smart app is then able to give real-time analysis including audio feedback. That’s it. It doesn’t require sensors or special equipment, just an iPhone or iPad.
HomeCourt is ideal for family use and allows up to four profiles that you can seamlessly switch between. Trainers and teams can also use the app to keep their systems going by using the app to make team rosters, assign workouts and provide coaching feedback. Even better, the NBA and HomeCourt have partnered so scouts can use the app too. Let your kid practise as much as they want to build up their profile by showcasing their skills and they could be scouted right from your personal device.
If basketball isn’t really their thing, don’t worry. The drills help build skills across a variety of sports. For example, soccer players are using the ball control drill to work on juggling, football players are using the lateral quickness cone drill to keep their footwork fresh and hockey players are using the single target drill to dive for virtual pucks.
HomeCourt requires a subscription but in light of recent times, the app is extending the service for free until May 31stto help everyone stay in the game.
NBA Basketball School has an online training program for the first time ever. Group sessions are provided by age groups from U10 up to U18 and sessions can be purchased in four or eight week blocks. Private training sessions are also available with each 45-minute session tailored to the player’s goals, age and level of ability.
